City Council Study Session 25 October 2016 CitizenMinutes
City Manager and City Attorney Search
Waters & Co was there to discuss with the council the timeline for selecting a new city manager. Chuck (from Waters & Co) was not done with his data gathering. He had met with council members and would be meeting with department heads the following day. This would enable him to complete a profile of the perfect candidate for consideration. He had heard some recurring themes:
Highly experienced
Willing to come for an extended time – not a stepping stone
Manages openly and transparent with citizens, staff and council
Ability to manage a full service city at a high level
Able to develop codes, Charter, and ability to apply law as it pertains to our situation
Experience with urban renewal
Open to innovative ways to maintain infrastructure
Chuck will get back to the council by Dec. 15th with a list of candidates – possibly up to seven. Interviews will take place early in January. They will need ten days to complete the background checks.
There will be a public survey that citizens can access through the internet.
Peggy Cole asked Chuck, after interviewing all council members, how difficult was the task going to be. Chuck said if was fair to say that the council was not homogenous. There are different ways to look at the same thing. It will be a factor in the recruitment – the candidates will view the videos (I assume the videos of their meetings) and they will draw their own conclusions.
The city attorney process will be “right behind” the city manager process although it will be a little more difficult since candidates need to be licensed to practice in CO.
South Suburban Management Plan
This was a discussion of the updating of the existing management plan. It is available online for those that want to read.
